I don’t know how this CD found its way into my hallowed halls– most likely eons ago, as some part of an experimental time capsule for the 90s.  Eerily, no one confesses to purchasing it. Not mom. Not dad. Not sister. (Not me! And the louder I say it, the more true it becomes.) So the game is afoot. And if for some reason Ms. Howard’s “Pump, Pump!” backs its way onto my iPod, Mandy the iPad, Wendy the Windows Phone, and my iMac, the case of “The Mystery Freak” will be “Pump, Pump!” rising to some Professor Moriarty levels of nefariousness.

Warning: This song isn’t just infectious…it’s an infection. Spritz with antibacterial after listening.

Which reminds me (whilst on the topic of music) I still have my eagerly ambivalent third single to release from my own album, The Seduction: Bed, Bath & Beyond. *cue Michael Jackson-type fans fainting and crying* The song is done; I’m just to lazzzay (extra “Zs”) to release it. But until then, here’s what’s been ringing in my ears these past few days. It’s good. I’m calling it the official Cerritos song of summer. But you don’t have to take my word for it.

Ahhh. The Brits sure know how to make music. (Was Adina British?) I can’t say “LOVE”, but now, thanks to Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud, I can spell it– in song. I El-Oh-Vee-Eeee boba! There I said it. See, I’m not a heartless robot.

We have liftoff. See you in space….I mean Seoul.

It would have been easy if I were heading to a tropical destination; t-shirts and shorts would have taken little space in a suitcase. But I’m headed to a cold, cold, cold, much colder climate than our breeezy Southern California, where temperatures can drop below 30 degrees F. (Yikes!) Which means I’ll be needing to stuff some thick jackets and winter wear into my single suitcase. All the while trying to reserve room for any possible shopping bounty– if time permits that is. (Oh please let time permit.)

Thankfully, the answer to my packing prayers came in the form of vacuum-free Space Saving Bags from none other than Target Bloomfield.  You just stuff your clothes (folded neatly of course) into these giant zip lock bags, squeeze out the air, and you’ve practicallys “beef jerkied” your wardrobe into a manageable size. A weeks worth of undershirts slimmed down to a narrow LED flatscreen. All without requiring a Dyson (or an Oreck Vacuum from the Landmark Square Cerritos) to suck up all the oxygen. Amazing!

Is it just me, or is Target becoming more like its predecessors, Gemco and Fedco: part retailer, part grocery store. Does progress mean moving backward?

Seriously though, I do miss Fedco. My mom and I had a routine. Go in, buy your clothes and school supplies in one department. Then head over to the grocery store section for some frozen dinners (French Bread Stouffer’s Pizza!) and junk food. Pick-up some take out at the Panda Express in the corridor. And finish the day with a scoop of ice cream at the fountain shop near the exit. Our visits were epic!

But now, I am a little wary of places like Wal-Mart putting in grocery sections in their stores. I don’t want my super stores to be too…super. We don’t need anymore empty lots in Cerritos. (I got your back Lucky’s Ralphs.)

*I bring this up because just recently I made a stop at the Cerritos Wal-Mart and a lola working in the front asked me to sign a petition that would help bring produce to the store. I said “No”. Respectfully, of course.

I’ve really enjoyed my recent discovery of Pushing Daisies on Netflix. Finding a good show is like hitting the jackpot. Now I have 22 hours of high quality time wasting. Sadly my favorite viewing partner is nowhere to be found. Boba where art thou? I reach for you during my parchest of moments. But your bland cousin, water, is all there is to quench my thirst.

*The initial publishing of this post was a mistake. I had intended to post it today, March 15th. I guess my Korea distractions have got me “slipping”. Boat shoes help me!

Went to the Syndicate last Friday and tried a different barber, Miles. It could have been a risk–putting your hair in the hands of a new guy the day before your friend’s wedding–but I’ve seen his work before. And true to form, he was awesome. He even did something I didn’t expect (pull your minds out of the gutter; and rinse): he trimmed my eyebrows. What a pleasant surprise! Not to mention, my haircut turned out great. I think I’m ready to enter my DeLorean and head back to the 1950s.

P.S. This is the only place I’ve been to where I don’t feel the need to shower after a cut. They clean up the stray hairs pretty well. Which is a good thing– I hate to feel like I’m shedding all over the place.

Call them survivors. While all other retailers have come and gone, A Touch of Romance and Oreck Vaccuums have stood resolute on Cerritos soil. Next door neighbors at the Landmark Square Cerritos, they are the Ying to each other’s Yang. One makes the mess, the other cleans it up. And together they have more suction than any Dyson could ever dream to possess.

Planet Cerritos salutes these two local heroes who make pleasure their business.

P.S. Seriously. Is it just a coincidence that these two shops are located right next to each other? I’ve always wondered. To the Cerritos Library!

Aside from the hundered balloons I blew up for the backyard, we posted some mylars on the roof of my grandmother’s house. The spectacle stopped traffic. Not to toot my own horn (TOOOOOT!), my standing out in front welcoming guests probably definitely contributed to the high spectator levels. TOOOOOT! Sorry about that; my horn is malfunctioning.

This red velvet masterpiece pictured above was provided by the buttercream maestro Lisa Tom of Tomgirl Bakery in Huntington Beach. They really pulled off the shade of red I was looking for. I wanted elegant. And that’s exactly what I got. (Thanks Lisa!) Sometimes when reds get too bright they can come off looking cheap and trashy– I never get trashy.

I do, however, get slizzard.
